The tin coating is used both inside and outside of the Irani chai set to prevent corrosion of the copper. The tin coating serves as a protective layer between the metal and the chai. The tin coating improves the conductivity of copper cookware, lowering fuel expenses. Regular re-tinning intervals also keep the tea's flavor fresh.
