Black as a thundercloud.
Red as Ixoras.
She had a hard exterior that was always prepared for challenges. And her soft core informed her sensitive intelligence. A rare combination of power and restraint, she was revered. Her exuberance had a muted quality; it nurtured the poise of a classical mehfil but also retained the spark of Jazz nights. In a world of passing trends, she was irreplaceable.
Was she ever aware of her charm? She championed the regularity of a Rangan Phool but with a difference. It was as if she had been fooling around in a rose garden. And had begun to smell as sweet as a rose only by chance!
Win hearts in our black and red saree made of cotton and acrylic, embellished with opulent zari and rose motifs.

Suta is because our weavers are. They’re an integral part of our success story and continue to delight and enchant us every day with their invaluable skills.
Growing up in different parts of India, Su and Ta were introduced to handlooms at an early age. When they quit their corporate careers to explore their passions, they realised the urgent need to bridge the gap between lovers of artisanal crafts with the makers of these products. This marked the beginning of their journey to establish a brand whose story begins and ends with the weaver and the loom. From the very start, the weavers were more than vendors. They were family, inviting Su and Ta into their homes and spending time with them. Since then, Su and Ta have travelled through several villages in Madhya Pradesh, Meghalaya, Varanasi, Odisha and West Bengal, to better understand the crafts that our nation has birthed and to bring artisans specialising in these crafts on board. Suta has since set sail with a guiding compass of uplifting artisans and incorporating our nation’s age-old weaves into stunning and contemporary products. Ensuring the wellbeing of our artisans is our top priority, whether securing them regular employment to ensure the longevity of their trade, or bulk purchasing all their leftover stock during the turbulent pandemic days. From a single weaver in 2006, we’ve come a long way with our current community of more than 17,000 artisans.
We’ve also consciously tried to employ women artisans (nearly 60% of our weavers are women) and offer them a safe work environment to explore their skills. In doing so, we are proud to have offered them a means to become financially independent. Listening to their success stories and personal achievements fills us with great pride. We’re so honoured and humbled to be a part of their journey.
This handloom cotton with kantha embroidery pays homage to the building blocks of Suta and the source of this nation’s rich textile heritage, our weavers.

Sometimes on the long winter nights I regret not being an astronaut! Orbiting the planets, watching the beautiful universe unfold in front of my eyes. I dreamt with open eyes and with each sigh you pulled me close & told me that I am a thousand glorious suns & a million dazzling stars! Everything that I have been longing for! Thank you my bed for being the greatest support system I could ever get. For literally always having my back!
This serene blue coloured cotton and patchwork bedsheet is as comfy as it is beautiful!
Patchwork is different smaller pieces of fabrics stitched together intricately to bring a vibrant design alive. For this bedsheet, patchwork is done on cotton fabric.Kantha is traditional embroidery that originated from the nimble hands of industrious women who upcycled fabric bits into quilts, blankets and clothing by stitching them together. The earliest. basic yet most laborious kantha stitch is a simple, straight, running stitch. The quilt has been minutely detailed with these kantha stitches using contrast, bright cotton threads.

In my dreams, a dragonfly’s wings touch the calm surface of the lake before flying off far away. The ripples touch the soft, dreamy petals of the yellow-white waterlilies. Tender is the sight when you look at lilies. And the ripples their petals create on the water makes music you could listen to only if you had a keen ear for it.
This is a light yellow coloured, handloom cotton, kimono sleeved overlay kurta dress with beautiful Herringbone hand embroidery accents.
Handloom cotton is a type of fabric that is woven using hand operated looms. Two sets of interlacing yarns, the warp (length) and weft (width), are woven on a mechanised loom operated by weavers. These looms do not use electricity. Human handling lends the fabrics a unique feel and renders the fabrics more value. The resultant fabric is softer and much more comfortable than machine-made fabrics. Handloom cotton is more breathable and thus feels lighter in summers and is perfect for layering in winters.
The art of hand weaving is labour intensive and takes a longer time. But, the beauty it adds to the fabric is priceless. Choosing handloom cotton supports the rich weaving heritage of India and lets the weavers carry on the precious art-form to the future generations as well.
The Herringbone hand-embroidery on the overlay garment is done by a group of beautiful women artisans at Suta. This dress has an easy-fit that allows space for freedom of movement, breathability and flow. This can be styled separately as well as part of an ensemble.

Each monsoon, she’d spent at least a few afternoons tearing up the pages of old notebooks and fashioning each into a boat. She’d then launch her little fleet in the stream near their house, and watch the boats bob away until she could no longer see them. She imagined they’d get into all sorts of adventures. Perhaps they’d plunge down steep waterfalls, towards gigantic whirlpools. She wondered if they would survive these whirlpools; she hoped they would. Or, perhaps they kept sailing until they reached the open sea, where they would meet other little boats just like them from all over the world. Each boat had its story. And, although she could never be certain of how each story ended, she knew it was magnificent in its own right.
Take the first step towards your life’s greatest adventures, when you wear this light blue kurta that’s paired with white bottoms. The kurta is made of handloom cotton, while the bottoms are made of cotton. This set includes an under-layer.
Handloom cotton is handwoven by our weavers on mechanical looms. The process is time and labour-intensive, using techniques that have been passed down across generations of artisans. The resultant fabric is extraordinarily soft, breathable and resilient, and also drapes very well. Using handloom cotton not only helps us to work with smaller weavers but also plays an important role in reducing the environmental footprint of the garments we produce.
Cotton silk is a blend of cotton and silk. Clothes made of this fabric are lightweight, soft, breathable, and have an elegant sheen. This hybrid fabric is especially popular as it can be worn with comfort and ease during both summers and winters.

The growth of the water hyacinth is lush. It has neither a sense of direction nor a sense of restriction. It catches on to the water and spreads its existence like fire on dry grass. But what is wonderful about its growth is its quietness. It makes no fuss. It just does the only thing that it knows how to, even when it is considered an unwanted weed. Today, people have found a way to use the water hyacinth as a raw material. All that was required was for it to keep doing its job until time changed everything. Anything in the world can teach us about life. Isn’t it?

The holiday season smelt different. There were bits of baked apple and cinnamon, sprigs of lemongrass and the warmth of hot chocolate with marshmallows. Imagine all of that in a quaint smell. She couldn’t think of the holiday season without pulling out snippets from her childhood. And while signing off a greeting card for her first childhood friend, she wished to conjure that old whiff. She could only seal it with a moist kiss and a prayer. “When he opens the card, he will receive my warmest wishes,” she told herself.
Wish your loved ones well in this charming red hand-embroidered saree made of a viscose blend.

Warli khesh
€66,75
Length: 6.5 meters ; Width: 47 inches
Blouse piece: No
Blouse: Su, the model is wearing a blouse from our in house collection.
Underskirt: You can pair it with a White underskirt
Note: The colours of the khesh lines may vary because it is made from recycled sarees
When artisans cant sell their cotton sarees they tear them off into fine cotton shreds and weave them into another cotton saree. This recycling gives birth to a Khesh saree.
While we speak of sustainable fashion and up-cycling in the present day and age, weavers have been carrying on the tradition of up-cycling for many decades. The beautiful fabric of khesh is an example of old-world charm remaining as ravishing as ever in any form. The process of khesh weaving is pretty simple. On the handloom, new yarn forms the warp and torn strips of old sarees form the weft. However, the stunning amalgamations that this simple process can produce are truly extraordinary. What started in the early 1920s at Shilpa Sadan that was set up by Rabindranath Tagore near Shantiniketan as a vocational training centre is now a design that symbolises the beauty in the simplicity of the Indian way of living. The traditional weavers in Birbhum pass on their craft to consequent generations and keep the spirit alive.
The old sarees that are torn into strips are got either from different collections centres or from the excess of sarees that the weavers have that haven't been sold. Once the old sarees are collected, shredding them into thin strips by hand is a process that is almost as difficult as the weaving. Cotton sarees are preferred because they are easier to tear when compared to synthetic ones. The weavers have developed short-cuts to make the tearing process easier. They first tear the sarees into 6 or 7 broad strips. Then, cuts of the desired breadth are made at the edge of each strip. Following this, they hold the alternate edges on one hand and the rest in the other hand and pull in opposite directions. Once torn, these strips are weaved as khesh fabric. The outcome of the final fabric can never be predicted beforehand. It is always like a beautiful kaleidoscope churning out different combinations of the colours it contains. This surprise element is the beauty of the fabric.

She must see the world. All that she did ended in one eternal wish — the wish to explore. Her mind wandered from the present into the future. She could wilfully position herself in far off lands. Sometimes, it was a hamlet in the hills. Sometimes, a part of the Maghreb region of Africa. And sometimes, she was just under the sky — in an unknown town of a lesser-known city.
Free as a bird, she was just beginning to fly into the vast azure. But her aspirations were rooted in one belief. She felt safe knowing that wherever she is, she’s being watched by the sky. A blue patchwork quilt woven by her Nani up there.
Feel at home with your deepest desires in this blue saree made of Kota cotton, featuring hand-embroidered Chikankari work.
Kota cotton fabric is renowned for its softness, light weight and ease of wear. It is made using an open weave with fine checks, which are called ‘khats’. This weave ensures that the resultant fabric is airy and comfortable. This Kota cotton fabric forms the base of these sarees, which are further embellished with Lucknowi chikankari work. Chikankari is a style of embroidery that has its roots in Lucknow, the capital of Uttar Pradesh. The word 'chikan' is derived from the Persian word 'chikeen'. In its most traditional form, chikankari work reflects the influence of the intricate carving patterns found in Mughal architecture. The legacy of chikan work in Lucknow dates back to more than 200 years.

A lone dragonfly buzzed lazily over the lily pads, its gossamer-like wings radiating all the colours of the rainbow. The air was heavy and felt slightly sticky against her bare shoulders. In the distance, she could hear the cacophony of nameless tiny insects and, occasionally, the plaintive cry of a koel. It was a scene straight out of a picture book – so tranquil and beautiful that something within her told her to put down the camera and preserve it in a snapshot of her mind’s eye. It was the kind of place where minutes melted into hours and hours into day’s end. Surely, this was what wonderland felt like.

It was a path she’d taken countless times before – a narrow strip of gravel, fringed by thorny scrub on one side and the open sea on the other, weaving between clumps of trees and the occasional rocky outcrop. When she was younger, her mother would often joke that her destiny was tied to that one path – it was the same colour and had the same contours as the lines running through her palms.
But it had been many moons since she’d last set foot down that path. The home that she’d grown up in had been reduced to a bare shell. The boundary wall was a crumbling, sodden mess. A dark green canopy shrouded their patch of blue sky. Everything had changed, except her. Perhaps, it was time she moved on as well.
Blame it on old habits but she found herself wandering down the path, just like the old times. She thought about the many memories that were intertwined with that route and her heart brimmed with nameless bittersweet emotions. It was a walk she’d never forget.
Take a walk down memory lane in this stunning purple handloom cotton dress with beautiful hand-embroidered details.
